Material and Imaging Analysis Procedure for the Investigation of Paintings in the Archbishop’s Palace of Seville

The Archbishop’s Palace of Seville harbours an important art collection with mostly works by great Renaissance and Baroque artists. However, the authorship some paintings is unknown, and, in a few cases, there interest discovering painter due to quality artwork. As first step for this purpose, systematic analysis procedure has been established using non-destructive techniques, such as UV photography IR reflectography, locate interventions underpaintings, well X-ray fluorescence identify original pigments those later interventions. study following protocol presented example two unknown authors. They were made different centuries representing, consequently, styles. images showed several retouches, while reflectography revealed under-drawing composition corrections (pentimenti). Furthermore, XRF identified applied production colours tonalities, allowing characterise artist’s palette, whose generally agree dates when artworks produced. This resulted valuable information on painting materials which will be useful search authorships, among others.
